Technics SL-1200GR2 Direct Drive Turntable
The Technics SL-1200GR2 continues a legacy that began in 1970 with the introduction of the world’s first direct drive turntable. Building on decades of innovation, this latest model incorporates advanced motor technology and precision engineering to deliver exceptional rotational stability, reduced vibration, and outstanding analogue performance.
At its core is a single-rotor, surface-facing, coreless direct drive motor, evolved from designs used in models such as the Technics SL-1200GR turntable. This eliminates cogging and ensures smooth, accurate rotation for precise playback.
A major advancement is the introduction of the ΔΣ-Drive (Delta Sigma Drive), a breakthrough motor-drive system that uses advanced PWM signal processing to suppress high-frequency harmonics and reduce motor-induced vibrations. This results in quieter operation and a more refined, stable musical presentation.
The high-speed switching power supply further enhances performance by minimising ripple and electrical noise, maintaining signal purity without the need for bulky transformers.
The platter features a two-layer construction with an aluminium die-cast base and full-surface damping rubber, increasing rigidity and reducing resonance. At approximately 2.5 kg, it offers greater inertial mass than previous models, contributing to improved rotational stability and reduced vibration.
The classic Technics S-shaped tonearm is retained, constructed from lightweight, rigid aluminium and mounted using a high-precision gimbal bearing system. Hand assembly and adjustment ensure extremely high initial-motion sensitivity, allowing accurate tracking of record grooves.
The chassis uses a two-layer construction combining aluminium die-cast and BMC materials for enhanced rigidity, while high-damping silicon insulators reduce external vibrations and improve long-term reliability.
