How it all started

Hi, I'm Paul the founder & owner of The Spinning Room. 


As a local lad Sunny Bank Mills has long been a part of my life visiting to attend live music events, record fairs and soaking up the cool vibe of this truly unique place. In early 2025 a visit to the record fair held in the Old Woollen (the mills live venue) unexpectedly kickstarted this amazing Spinning Room adventure. Within just 2 days of hearing in passing about an available space located behind the resident record shop, a meeting with the mill owners was arranged and the door was swung open to reveal a space that would soon be completely transformed into what is now the Spinning Room.

Do you believe in destiny? Over a decade ago I visited Sunny Bank Mills for the first time walking down the corridor where we are now based, passing the metal shuttered door that is now the striking entrance to the showrooms door to spend an amazing day in the mills weaving sheds enjoying live music, spoken word and art called 'Trouble at the Mill'. Unbeknown to me this part of the mill would become a huge part of my families life. So was it destiny to become part of this amazing community of creative independent businesses located in the heart of the spectacular Sunny Bank Mills? I believe so!

The Spinning Room experience has evolved since opening as we welcome hundreds of people every week into our showroom. It has become clear that we have an opportunity to inspire many new people to engage with getting great sounding music at home. Our mission is to inspire as many visitors as we can to prioritise listening to great sounding music over other less beneficial pass times (watching mundane TV for one). We do this by offering a truly engaging retail experience like no other that exudes energy, fun and positivity towards this amazing pass time. Music is an art form that can be enjoyed at home by all, we just ensure that your experience is one to remember.

Our spectacular showroom/demo facility that we have created celebrates all things music with the walls full of music related art, locally made products, craftsman made commissions and of course cool HiFi brands that are not commonplace in the usual high street HiFi shops.

How do we differ to the rest?

We are a music first business that happens to stock the products needed to get the most from your music at home. We only stock brands & products that excel in their design, value and performance (we simply don't have the room or energy for substandard stuff). We constantly search for new and exciting products especially those hidden gems that are all too often overlooked by the larger HiFi retailers.

We are very proud of the brands that we have curated as they all offer superb performance at their price ensuring that there is something for everyone no matter how obsessed you are.

The aim is to inspire every single showroom visitor to engage more with the art form that is music and ultimately to get the most pleasure from their precious time listening to music at home.

We recognise that this feeling is a huge barrier to you getting the help you deserve . No matter what stage of your HiFi journey you are at getting some help and guidance is beneficial. Our inclusive & welcoming open door approach ensures that all visitors to the Spinning Room showroom are welcomed and are treated with the utmost respect; we never assume knowledge. Passing on our years of collective knowledge is an honour & privilege.

Our products range from very affordable starter orientated equipment to world class high end brands ensuring that there is literally something for everyone.

New to this and simply don't know where to start?

Whether you want to start playing vinyl records, streaming music or spinning CD's we have lots of amazing products for you. We get that your current set up might include a bluetooth speaker & a Spotify account, that’s also fine with us but let us help you discover how you can engage with your music far more and ultimately fall deeper in love with the artists work you care so much about.

Unlike online shopping* we urge you to make decisions first hand in the showroom with enough product knowledge (we provide this) to make the right decision for your circumstances. We are big advocates of you choosing with your own ears, music & heart.

*Jeff B isn't available to assist you and TBH he isn't that bothered how your system sounds anyway.

The choice is overwhelming

We get that navigating your way through the vast choice of equipment can be daunting at first but given it is what we do every day its our job to explain what makes a great product and what to avoid. We can make recommendations but better still we can help you make an informed choice.

Accepted this can be a complicated subject but the good news for you is that we pride ourselves on making complicated things simple so you can choose a product that is right for you (the most important person).

The Spinning Room Farsley is a truly unique HiFi & music retail experience that is designed to inspire you to make positive decisions about how you spend your precious spare time.

Our goal is to enthuse all those that visit to discover the joy of high quality music at home and as enthusiasts ourselves this isn't hard!

So can music feed your soul? Maybe not via an Alexa* but with the right equipment yes 100%. We've had tears in the showroom to prove this on several occasions.

So your showroom isn't like all the others?

Nope & that's 100% intentional! We regularly have visitors say WOW on entering the showroom & quickly ask if its okay to take pictures!

We want you to enjoy the spaces amazing energy, vibe, sounds & products. We guarantee that there will always be brilliant music playing*, unique music related art hung on the walls to ponder & cool vintage collectables dotted around for nostalgia, history and discussion.

*I've always been very suspicious of HiFi shops that are deadly silent on entering... dunno why, just seems wrong to me.
