STST Motus II Direct Drive Turntable
The STST Motus II is a high-end direct drive turntable designed and manufactured in Germany by Stefan Strohmetz. Built around the concept of a modern “Solid-State-Masse-Laufwerke” design, it combines direct drive technology with a high-mass construction to deliver exceptional speed stability and low noise performance.
The Motus II features a heavy mass plinth and platter, designed to minimise the impact of external vibrations and provide a stable platform for playback. At its core is a low-torque, in-house custom direct drive motor, working in combination with the high-mass platter to maintain precise and consistent rotational speed through inertia.
Speed selection between 33⅓ and 45 RPM is handled via a discreet switch located beneath the front of the plinth, allowing for simple operation while maintaining a clean aesthetic. The turntable operates with extremely low noise, enabling high levels of detail retrieval from the record.
Power is supplied by a separate external power supply unit, helping to isolate electrical interference from the main chassis. The STST Vertex tonearm is a recommended pairing, though the flexible mounting system allows for a wide range of third-party tonearms to be installed.
Each Motus II is built to order, offering extensive customisation options including a wide selection of real wood veneers, painted finishes (including RAL colours), and multiple top plate materials such as acrylic, aluminium, chrome, stainless steel look, or carbon.
