STST Motus II DQ Direct Drive Turntable
The STST Motus II DQ is a high-end direct drive turntable designed and manufactured in Germany by Stefan Strohmetz. As an evolution of the Motus range, it combines a high-mass direct drive system with a suspended sub-chassis design, delivering exceptional isolation, stability, and precision.
Built around the concept of “Solid-State-Masse-Laufwerke”, the Motus II DQ integrates a heavy mass platter with a low-torque, in-house custom direct drive motor. The platter’s inertia ensures highly stable and accurate speed performance, while maintaining low noise operation for maximum detail retrieval.
A key feature of the Motus II DQ is its leaf spring-loaded sub-chassis, designed to isolate the playback system from external vibrations. The suspension system includes adjustable damping and the ability to fine-tune balance using brass weights, allowing precise setup based on tonearm and cartridge configuration.
Speed selection between 33⅓ and 45 RPM is controlled via a discreet switch located beneath the front of the plinth, maintaining a clean and minimal design. The turntable is powered by a separate external power supply to reduce electrical interference.
The STST Vertex tonearm is a natural pairing, though the flexible mounting system allows for a wide range of third-party tonearms. The design also allows the turntable to operate independently of the plinth, which is primarily aesthetic and fully customisable.
