The Ortofon ST-80 Special Edition is a high-performance step-up transformer designed to unlock the full potential of moving coil cartridges. Built for serious analogue systems, it enhances signal gain while preserving detail, tonal balance, and musical integrity.

At its core, the ST-80 SE features an upgraded transformer design with a larger bobbin, increased coil windings, and a multi-layer permalloy core. These enhancements deliver a more detailed, full-bodied sound with improved warmth and clarity, while maintaining excellent signal purity.

The transformer is housed within a magnetically shielded permalloy case and encased in a solid 10mm thick aluminium cylinder. This construction provides exceptional isolation from external interference, ensuring a low noise floor and stable performance. Its substantial weight further improves stability, preventing movement once installed.

Designed as a true dual mono unit, the ST-80 SE offers outstanding channel separation, contributing to a more precise and focused stereo image. Internally, it uses Teflon-insulated, solid-core OFC copper wiring with gold plating, alongside high-quality gold-plated RCA terminals, ensuring optimal signal transmission throughout.

The ST-80 SE is compatible with a wide range of high-end moving coil cartridges, including Ortofon’s Cadenza, SPU, and Exclusive Series models. It is particularly well suited to premium analogue setups, delivering increased gain without introducing distortion.
