Ortofon ST-70 Moving Coil Transformer
The Ortofon ST-70 is a high-quality step-up transformer designed to deliver clean, detailed signal amplification for moving coil cartridges. Combining precision engineering with a refined, minimalist design, it offers exceptional noise performance, clarity, and musical transparency.
At the heart of the ST-70 are premium Lundahl™ transformers, enclosed within specialised mu-metal shielding. This combination ensures outstanding rejection of both internal and external interference, resulting in an exceptionally quiet background and highly revealing sound reproduction.
The ST-70 features a true dual mono design, with completely separate circuitry for each channel. This eliminates crosstalk and reduces distortion, delivering cleaner, clearer audio with significantly improved stereo imaging and a more expansive, lifelike soundstage.
Built with signal integrity in mind, the unit uses high-quality industrial-grade PCB construction, gold-plated RCA terminals, and Teflon insulation throughout. Internal wiring is kept to an absolute minimum to preserve the purity and accuracy of the audio signal from input to output.
For flexibility, the ST-70 includes internal jumpers that allow selection between two gain and impedance settings, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of moving coil cartridges. It pairs particularly well with high-end cartridges such as the Ortofon Cadenza series, providing the required gain while maintaining low noise and accurate tonal balance.
As a passive device, the ST-70 boosts the low output of moving coil cartridges without introducing additional electronic noise. This makes it a clean and transparent alternative to active MC phono preamplplifiers, delivering natural sound without added colouration.
