The Ortofon SPU #1 S continues one of the longest-standing traditions in analogue audio, preserving the unmistakable “Ortofon sound” that has been trusted since the earliest days of moving coil cartridge design. Originally adopted by broadcasting companies, the SPU established a reputation for rich, musical reproduction that remains highly regarded today.
Designed for moderate to high-mass tonearms with SME-type connections, the SPU #1 S offers a classic analogue presentation with strong tonal weight and smooth musical flow. Its spherical stylus provides stable tracking and a forgiving nature, making it well-suited to a wide range of vinyl, including older records.
Constructed with a ground wood and resin composite body, the cartridge benefits from natural resonance control, contributing to its warm and cohesive sound. The low internal impedance ensures efficient signal transfer and compatibility with suitable moving coil phono stages or transformers.
